Anita Lester

Anita Lester is an Australian based musician, film maker, writer and painter.

Known for her haunting voice and deeply lyrical writing, Anita’s music is a seamless fusion of sacred imagery, Jewish mysticism, and personal folklore.

She first rose to prominence fronting the theatrical rock outfit Lester the Fierce, touring the world and commanding stages from smoky coffee shops to grand arenas.

In March 2020, Anita released her debut solo EP Erato - a sparse, poetic collection that found its audience in unexpected places despite the stillness of lockdown. Its centrepiece, a cover of Leonard Cohen’s You Want It Darker, had already gone viral through a live video that reached Cohen himself before his death. Another track, Wrong Time, resonated deeply, finding its way into international film and television, including The Walking Dead.

In 2021, she released Sun and Moon and Stars, a dreamy single produced by Australian indie icons Husky. And in 2023, Anita returned with The Clown - a theatrical, melancholic record, that explores longing, masks, and the quiet devastation of waiting to be chosen.
